Vice President, Media Strategy

LEWIS is seeking an experienced Vice President, Media Strategy to consult with account leads on the most effective way to achieve excellent qualitative and quantitative media coverage for their clients.  The Vice President, Media Strategy will help create unified media campaigns that are unique and impactful in reaching the clients’ target audiences and meeting their communications objectives. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, West Coast PR, the role will work across US accounts and will have direct client relationships as an expert consultant. This position is pivotal in the evolution of our premium client service capabilities and offer.

Purpose of the role

The Vice President (VP), Media Strategy will use their extensive knowledge of media and public relations, content creation/storytelling, thought leadership, media training and messaging, and senior executive profiling to create unified media campaigns. Leading the creation of unique story angles and planning media strategies across channels, the VP, Media Strategy is responsible for ensuring that all elements of the media plan are working together effectively and are delivering against expectations and goals.

The VP, Media Strategy will help engage with and win clients. They will contribute to, and participate in, credentials, RFIs and pitches.

Providing leadership and hands-on development of our people, the VP, Media Strategy will enthuse account teams about the media and instil a genuine interest in media engagement. Championing a collaborative, positive culture, they will forge strong relationships with colleagues and will be an active contributor to the success of the business.


Key responsibilities

  • Work with client leads and account teams to develop creative, results-driven campaigns that meet the clients’ objectives; assess the campaigns’ effectiveness and fine tune accordingly
  • Help teams to identify news opportunities (news jacking) and develop content in real time; lead press briefing sessions
  • Work with account teams to come up with strong storytelling angles/editorial content that is fresh, relevant and newsworthy
  • Incorporate new media platforms, understanding how to leverage these to achieve the overall communications objectives
  • Leverage top-tier media relationships to accomplish objectives
  • Drive knowledge of, and relationships with, the media
  • Develop media pitching strategies and coach account teams to pitch stories successfully
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, acting as senior counsel and providing added-value consultancy to help foster client retention and growth
  • Run executive profiling programs, including media training and messaging sessions with senior/C-suite clients
  • Recommend media strategy and content for RFIs and pitches
  • Lead internal media strategy training sessions
  • Present the strategic face of the agency to external audiences through speaker opportunities, interviews with the media, etc
  • Be a collaborative, encouraging and supportive member of the US management team
  • Overall, act as a guardian of best practice.

Additional requirements

  • Up to date knowledge of the US and global media landscapes and of how media can impact marketing activity
  • Experience of working in the tech sector and with b2b brands
  • Experience as a journalist or producer is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future trends and potential pitfalls
  • Thorough understanding of the wider communications and marketing industry
  • High level of business/commercial acumen - understand and maximise the impact of client revenues on the business
  • Evidence of consistently making good decisions through a combination of analysis, experience and judgment
  • Excel at working with bright and ambitious people; a team player
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to problem solve, project manage and multi-task. Will take charge of a situation and act
  • Integrity, humility, self-drive/initiative – and a sense of humor!

Remuneration and benefits

  • Basic salary dependent on experience
  • 20 days’ vacation per year
