Providing Support and Raising Awareness About Chinese Culture in the UK
Mission:
The London Chinese Community Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of the Chinese community. The organization focuses its attention and work particularly on those in the Chinese community who are disadvantaged, whilst also working to promote the culture and identity in the UK.
Why It Matters:
According to the advocacy group ‘End the Virus of Racism’, there has been a 300 percent increase in hate crimes towards people of East and Southeast Asian heritage since the start of the pandemic. The London Chinese Community Center helps to deliver workshops to assist individuals and encourage people to report these issues to the police. The charity has also been a vital hub for the Chinese community for decades, especially the city’s elderly, with fifty-two percent of the members over 65. Because of COVID-19, many of the charity’s fundraising events have been canceled, and this has resulted in the community center becoming at risk of collapsing.
