Feeding the Less Fortunate
Mission:
Since its foundation in 1994, Münchner Tafel has been supporting people in need with food. Over the years, the need for this charity’s service has increased, both in the demand for food as well as the increase of people in need. Today the association is supplying more than 22,000 people with more than 6,5 million kg of food every year.
Each week, Münchner Tafel distributes food at 27 locations and more than 100 social institutions in the city of Munich. More than 650 volunteers and, on average, 50 employees make this life-saving service possible.
Why It Matters:
Münchner Tafel has seen an increase of people in need in 2020. It is heartbreaking to see that so much food is wasted each year while many people are suffering from hunger. In Munich alone, 200,000 people are threatened by poverty and hunger, which represents 13% of Munich’s total population. The pandemic has had a huge impact on the economy, with many people have either lost their jobs or are now having to survive on cut paychecks.
Münchner Tafel collects and distributes food in various points of the city. With a donation of only €78, Münchner Tafel can support one of its guests with food for one year. These costs comprise transport and logistics costs and food purchases. This donation from TEAM LEWIS will help provide visibility around this cause, as well as provide enough to ensure hundred of people won’t go hungry. In addition, as a result of the work done by this organization, many people can be reintegrated into society later and food waste can be dramatically reduced.
