Purpose of the role

The Washington, D.C. office of LEWIS has an immediate opening for an Account Director with technology and cybersecurity experience to join our fast-growing security practice. This positon is an exciting and fantastic opportunity as the Account Director will be serving as a strategic communications counselor leading a number of fast paced and interesting client accounts. Working with both established industry leaders and start-ups, you’ll be promoting truly innovative technologies and telling unique stories. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s leading security experts and promote compelling threat research.

The Account Director is responsible for spearheading the overall account growth and development of existing accounts and ensuring the client’s expectations are being met, while facilitating strong agency performance and profitability. The Account Director works with both their clients and their team to ensure the efficient and effective running of their accounts. Account Directors translate quick but creative thinking into decisive action; providing team management, delegation of tasks and exceptional media relations skills.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Nurture and maintain good relationships on a day-to-day basis with senior-level clients
  • Lead and manage strategic day-to-day management of account team to ensure client’s business and tactical needs are being met
  • Oversee all media relations activity on behalf of the client, maintaining productive relationships with journalists, bloggers, influencers and analysts across national, trade and vertical media channels
  • Be a thought leader and provide strategic direction to cross-agency disciplines (creative, media, analytics) to inform agency deliverables
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the client’s business/industry and competitive marketplace
  • Apply analysis and research to inform strategic recommendations and drive decisions
  • Accountable for the quality of work that is delivered to the client across all agency disciplines
  • Provide solutions and ideas that address the client’s business and marketing challenges and help expand the client/agency partnership
  • Develop, mentor and grow account team
  • Work with the account team to develop and deliver strategic client presentations or recommendations and lead strategic discussions
  • Aggressively pursue new ways to contribute to overall agency and account revenue and profitability
  • Play a primary role in coordinating strategy and materials for new-business pitches
  • Work with senior management to identify best and new processes which drive efficiency and effectiveness for the overall agency
  • Work with senior management to evaluate account performance and profitability

 About you

  • 7-9 years of relevant experience in a B2B, corporate, consumer or digital communications agency. Technology and cybersecurity experience is a plus.
    • Experience managing mid-large level accounts for national/global brands
    • Ability to motivate and lead a team. 
    • Thorough knowledge of the media landscape and holds existing relationships with top-tier, business, trade, and tech media, and well-developed-skills in building and maintaining media relationships. 
    • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to translate and simplify complex issues.
    • Work well in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality work.
    • Proactive, driven and action-oriented with the goal to exceed client expectations and deliver results.
    • Effectively able to articulate and sell all agency services
