The Sustainability Now report by TEAM LEWIS intends to help brands understand how they can effectively communicate their sustainability commitments. Built from secondary research, we have prepared this as a reflection of our current sustainability situation in Australia. The report highlights trends and insights that businesses can use to help build successful sustainability marketing campaigns and messaging.


Over the last year we’ve continued to witness the effects of the climate crisis on our planet, and we’ve started to see how individuals and businesses are taking the lead to drive change in the absence of significant government policy. School-going children in Australia have taken the Government to court over their lack of action. Businesses are becoming more aware and responsible – they are working to do their part to improve and reverse the damage. Individual consumers are demanding that the brands they buy from become more accountable and action-oriented in this arena.

Findings

    • 9 in 10 Australian consumers are more likely to purchase ethical and sustainable products.
    • More than 1 in 3 Australians (36%) are extremely concerned about pollution, overfishing, and the state of the Great Barrier Reef, followed by climate change (35%) and plastic waste (33%).
    • 25% of Australians with income jeopardised during the pandemic are buying more sustainable/eco-friendly products.
    • 65% of consumers look for products that can help them live a more sustainable and socially responsible life.
