Welcome back, digital enthusiasts, to your weekly dose of all things social! Europe is officially sizzling right now under a massive heatwave, and if you are anything like me, you are currently cycling through every possible way to stay cool in 30-degree weather, whether that means blasting the AC, hoarding ice cubes, or simply sitting completely motionless in front of a fan.

As if the daytime heat wasn’t enough, our sleep schedules took another hit this week thanks to the Dutch national team’s late-night World Cup match against Tunisia. Staying up past midnight to watch the game definitely required an extra cup of coffee this morning, but a true football fan pushes through!
While we try to lower our body temperatures and recover from the late-night football drama, the social media landscape has been cooking up some major updates of its own. This week, we dive into LinkedIn’s brand-new co-authoring feature, Meta’s massive livestream shopping upgrade, the complex legal realities of a social media age limit in the Netherlands, Pinterest’s real-world activations at Cannes, and a major Dutch lawsuit landing on Meta’s doorstep.
    Here we go, yo!⏬

🤝 LinkedIn Rolls Out Collaborative Posts with Dual Co-Authors

LinkedIn introduces a game-changing feature for content reach: Collaborative Posts. This update allows a company page and an individual creator to co-author and publish the exact same post together. Once live, every collaborator is listed at the top, and the post is simultaneously pushed to both of their respective audiences. Currently, the tool is being tested with a selective group of brands and creators at the Cannes Lions festival, with a wider global rollout planned over the coming months.

🛍️ Meta Overhauls Livestream Shopping Tools and AI Ad Automation

Meta is heavily expanding its live commerce footprint by launching live video ads globally on Facebook and bringing them to Instagram for the first time. To streamline transactions, Meta is integrating third-party live commerce platforms (like CommentSold, Firework, and TalkShopLive) and introducing secure, temporary virtual cards via Mastercard and Visa. Furthermore, their affiliate marketing partnerships are expanding globally with integrations like Flipkart in India and Mercado Libre in Latin America. Finally,

🛑 Social Media Minimum Age in the Netherlands is Legally Possible, But Highly Complex

A new advisory report from researchers at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) confirms that it is legally possible for the Netherlands to independently introduce a social media minimum age limit of 15. While the Dutch government aims for a European-wide limit for unsafe apps, the report notes that the Netherlands doesn’t have to wait. However, execution remains a total headache: local authorities cannot directly penalize international tech giants, and digital age verification carries heavy consumer privacy risks. Data from Australia shows that despite strict bans, a majority of 14- and 15-year-olds easily bypass these blocks anyway.

⚖️ Dutch Legal Gambling Association Sues Meta Over Illegal Ads

VNLOK, the branch association representing licensed Dutch online gambling companies (including Holland Casino Online and TOTO), is launching a lawsuit against Meta. The group has also filed a formal complaint with the European Commission under the Digital Services Act (DSA). Joint investigations revealed that over 95% of gambling advertisements on Facebook and Instagram come from illegal operators. In March alone, over 15,000 illegal ads flooded the platforms, frequently hijacking official corporate logos, Dutch flags, and text variations like “Casino without Cruks” to actively target vulnerable groups and bypass consumer protection laws. Meta has yet to issue an official statement.
