🎬Meta’s Edits App is Getting an AI Assistant and a Desktop Version
Meta is leveling up its dedicated video-editing app, Edits, to better compete with CapCut. At a recent creator event, Meta previewed an upcoming AI assistant that will analyze your Instagram insights and brainstorm content ideas directly within the app. They also announced a highly-anticipated desktop version is “coming soon” for advanced editing workflows. Launching today, users will find a new “Beta” tab for early access to experimental features and highly detailed audience demographic metrics.
🤝LinkedIn Launches its Own Creator Marketplace
LinkedIn is taking a major step into the creator economy by launching its very own Creator Marketplace in the U.S. and Canada. Located within Campaign Manager, the marketplace allows brands to search for vetted creators by topic, audience, and performance to build powerful B2B campaigns. To take things a step further, LinkedIn is also introducing “BrandWorks”, a dedicated team of creative and strategy experts to help B2B marketers build high-performing, creator-led promotions on the platform.
🤖New AI Tools to Help You Make Things Happen on Facebook
Facebook is introducing new AI-powered features to completely upgrade how you search and create on the platform. The biggest update is “AI Mode,” a search tab powered by Muse Spark that answers questions using real, public perspectives from Groups and Reels rather than giving you a generic list of links. On the creative side, Facebook is adding opt-in collage cutout templates and a new “AI Edit” feature that lets you virtually change your hairstyle or digitally wear a team jersey to rep your World Cup fandom!
👓Meta Continues to Deflect Concerns About Facial Recognition Features
The privacy debate around Meta’s AI glasses is heating up again. Following a Wired report that Meta has been in talks with facial recognition software developer Rank One (whose board includes former CIA and FBI officials), Meta is trying to calm the waters. A spokesperson stated that while they are “exploring these types of features,” no final decisions have been made. However, privacy advocates remain highly skeptical, pointing to previously leaked internal communications suggesting Meta planned to quietly launch facial recognition during a busy political cycle to avoid civil society backlash.
🛑UK Bans Social Media for Children Under 16 Starting in 2027
The United Kingdom is taking drastic measures regarding digital safety, announcing a strict ban on social media for children under the age of sixteen. Taking effect in the spring of 2027, the ban will also cover gaming and streaming platforms where children can be approached by strangers unsupervised. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that social media severely impacts children’s offline development, homework, and sleep. The UK follows in the footsteps of Australia and Canada, aiming to push the legislation through parliament before Christmas.
