💬 Reddit expands campaign reach
Reddit has expanded its Conversation Ads inventory, allowing advertisers to place ads deeper within comment threads, not just at the top. This move helps brands engage users who are actively participating in discussions, increasing both reach and engagement. To ensure brand safety, Reddit has partnered with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science for enhanced suitability reporting. Advertisers combining feed and conversation ads have seen a 12% reduction in costs compared to targeting the feed alone. This expansion reinforces Reddit’s commitment to providing advertisers with effective tools to connect with high-intent users in a brand-safe environment.

🏎️💨 Instagram Speeds Things Up
Instagram now lets users fast-forward Reels at 2x speed by long-pressing on the screen, similar to TikTok. This feature enhances content consumption and engagement, aligning with Instagram’s strategy of adopting popular TikTok functionalities. Initially, both platforms had short video limits, but as demand grew, they introduced longer videos and playback controls. Now, Instagram Reels supports videos up to three minutes long with fast-forwarding, helping to maintain engagement while accommodating longer content.

🛒 Shop till you drop on TikTok
TikTok Shop is expanding into France, Germany, and Italy, launching yesterday to grow its European presence. Despite TikTok’s uncertain future in the U.S. due to potential divestment issues, the platform continues its international expansion. In France, partnerships include Carrefour, while in Germany, AboutYou and Cosnova will join the platform. TikTok Shop, known for discounted products and livestream selling, aims to diversify its product range and pricing. The platform has been available in the UK since 2021 and launched in the U.S. in September 2023.

🎶 Whats your status tune?
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature allowing users to add music clips to their Status updates. Users can select songs from a vast library and choose specific segments—up to 15 seconds for photos and 60 seconds for videos—to accompany their posts. This update mirrors similar functionalities in platforms like Instagram and aims to enhance user engagement through musical expression. Status updates, including those with music, remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring user privacy. The feature is being rolled out globally and will be available to all users over the coming weeks.
I’m looking forward to seeing your status tune.

👯♀️ Facebook Friends, with a more Friendly timeline
Facebook is introducing a new “Friends” tab to enhance personal connections by prioritizing content from users’ friends. This feature will display friends’ stories, reels, posts, birthdays, and friend requests without additional recommended content. Initially available in the US and Canada, the Friends tab can be accessed via the app’s navigation bar, allowing users to customize their experience. This initiative reflects Facebook’s strategic shift back to its original focus on intimate, friend-centric interactions, aiming to revitalize user engagement.
Will this return to the core test be rolled out in Europe after the US and Canada? 👉 Read their blog.
