Welcome back to another whistle-stop tour of the wild world of social.

This week Facebook wants access to your camera roll, what could possibly go wrong, YouTube is stepping in to protect your face from deepfake chaos, and LinkedIn is getting even more AI-powered. Meanwhile Threads has decided the best place to announce a new feature… is Coachella. Really, come on is nothing sacred? Can’t you just let influencers enjoy a festival.

📸 Facebook wants to scan users’ camera rolls for content

Facebook is testing a new opt-in feature that scans your camera roll and suggests posts, collages and recaps based on your photos. Think “here’s a lovely holiday memory,” mixed with “why is Meta looking at my screenshots and takeaway receipts?”

It’s all designed to get people posting again, and more importantly, give Meta even more data to feed its AI machine. The big question is whether anyone actually opts in. History suggests people like sharing less, not handing over more. 👉 Read more

🎭 YouTube expands access to AI likeness detection tools

YouTube is opening up its deepfake detection tools to a much wider group, allowing creators, athletes and public figures to track and remove AI-generated impersonations. Given how fast deepfakes are improving, this feels less like a nice-to-have and more like essential kit.

It’s a smart move. As AI content explodes, platforms need to offer protection, not just creation tools. Otherwise we’re heading into a world where anyone can be anyone, and that’s… not ideal. 👉 Read more

🔍 LinkedIn expands AI-powered conversational search

LinkedIn has rolled out its AI search tools to everyone, meaning you can now type in natural language and get more relevant people, posts and companies back. Basically, search that actually understands what you meant, not just what you typed.

It’s another step towards LinkedIn becoming less of a directory and more of a discovery engine. And with AI summaries now explaining why results show up, it’s quietly turning into a very powerful research tool. 👉 Read more

🎬 Meta previews updates for its Edits app

Meta’s Edits app continues its quiet glow-up, with new caption tools, better effects and more customization on the way. It’s becoming a serious contender in the creator toolkit space, especially for anyone already living inside Meta’s ecosystem.

The bigger play here is obvious. More AI tools, more advanced editing, and eventually… probably a paid tier. For now it’s free, but enjoy that while it lasts. 👉 Read more

🎡 Threads announces new feature… at Coachella

Threads has previewed a new “live chat” feature, basically a Broadcast Channels-style experience where creators can run real-time conversations for followers. Which is all well and good.

But announcing it at Coachella, that’s the bit that blew my mind. Imagine trying to get a crowd hyped about messaging functionality before Bieber takes to the stage. Possibly the least rock-and-roll product launch of all time. Still, if it works, it could give Threads a cleaner, less spammy way to handle live conversations. 👉 Read more

⌨️ Meta to track employee keystrokes to train AI

Meta is reportedly tracking internal employee behaviour, including mouse movements and keystrokes, to help train its AI systems. The idea is to teach AI how people actually use computers in real life.

It makes sense from a product perspective, but also raises some fairly big questions around privacy and boundaries. When even your clicks are training data, you start to wonder where the line actually is. 👉 Read more

🔧 Quick Tip of the Week

If you’re using Edits, start experimenting with captions and effects now. These tools are clearly becoming a core part of Meta’s content ecosystem, and the earlier you get comfortable, the easier it’ll be to stand out when everyone else catches up.

    ☕ De’Longhi – The World’s Smallest Coffee Shop

Turning coffee machines into miniature cafés is a very clever way to bridge at-home and café culture. Small idea, big charm. 👉 Grab a coffee here

🍭 IKEA x Chupa Chups – Meatball Lollipop

Some ideas should stay as April Fools’. This one didn’t… and now meatball lollipops exist. Not sure how to feel, but I respect the chaos. 👉 Give it a lick
