Mission:

The German Lifesaving Society e.V. (DLRG) is the largest water rescue organization in the world, with over 1,700,000 members and supporters. Since its founding in 1913, DLRG has made it its mission to save people who find themselves at serious risk in large bodies of water.

In the wake of the recent flood disaster in Germany and Eastern Europe this summer, the DLRG provided massive help and support, alongside local groups, continuing to save people from drowning. It provides 3 main services; swimming and lifeguard training, education about water hazards, and a water rescue service.

Why It Matters:

“The German Life-Saving Association is a relief organization. With around 560,000 members, organized in approximately 2,100 local groups, the DLRG is the largest voluntary water rescue organization in the world. In the wake of the July flood disaster, it became clear that organizations and people trained in water rescue, like those in the DLRG, are an invaluable service when natural disasters occur and floods strike. The DLRG is also essential in everyday life in Germany. Volunteers ensure the safety of everyone bathing at beaches and swimming pools. The organization also offers swimming lessons to people of all ages, as well as first aid courses, where people learn the basic techniques for saving lives.” Janis Kegler – Account Manager, TEAM LEWIS

“The DLRG’s main purpose is to prevent drownings and save people in dangerous situations in and around water. However, in 2021 they had a new challenge ahead of them…  Floods hit many areas in Germany; people needed to be saved from roofs; family members, friends, houses, cars, pets, belongings and much more were lost to the water.  In times of need, it is important to help each other. Even though the floods happened a couple of months ago and the news doesn’t really cover that topic anymore, people are still affected by the catastrophe that happened. And that shouldn’t be forgotten. TEAM LEWIS does not forget and recognizes the need to help as well. ” Alina Keussen – Account Executive, TEAM LEWIS
