Supporting people with MND

Mission:

The purpose of Motor Neurone Disease New South Wales Limited (MND NSW) is to provide benefits for and services to members of the Association with motor neurone disease, their families, and carers without discrimination. The Association works to distribute authoritative information and promotion of education to all people. They assist by providing specialised equipment for patient use. MND NSW hopes to increase public awareness and help those suffering from motor neurone disease live better.

Why It Matters:

Motor neurone disease is a progressive, degenerative, neurological condition with no known cure. It is a disease in which the nerve cells (motor neurons) that control the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow undergo degeneration and die. It is estimated that there are currently 2000 people with motor neurone disease in Australia. 2020 was a difficult year for MND NSW as they struggled to transform their services into ones that are contact-free. Over the past year, COVID-19 has placed more stress on families affected by motor neurone disease and in turn seen an increase in pressure on the services of MND NSW due to greater demand.

The cornflower is the symbol of hope for people with motor neurone disease.

LEWIS supports MND NSW through its Causes program and recognises the great work that this charity does to help those suffering from motor neurone disease live better. If you know someone diagnosed with motor neurone disease, please reach out to MND NSW for support.
