Protecting the pigs.
It is Stichting Varkens in Nood’s (Pigs in Need) mission to end the suffering of pigs in animal farms and to give them a life that better suits their natural behavior. It is a shameful truth that these intelligent animals spend their lives locked up in a cruel system where value is calculated only on the most effective production process from birth to slaughter.
The passionate team at Stichting Varkens in Nood fight every day to improve the position of pigs and educate the public on the abuses in the food industry. Varkens in Nood has already made great strides to help these animals. For example, the organization recently put an end to the painful castration of 20 million piglets annually. Furthermore, they have reduced piglet mortality on farms, reduced hunger for mother pigs, and improved transport conditions. But there is still a lot more work to do.
Why It Matters:
Through media, reports, petitions, and lawsuits, Varkens in Nood is increasing political and social pressure with the goal of ending the suffering of pigs in livestock farming. Their efforts are admirable, and LEWIS supports that. We at LEWIS understand the power of media and believe in its reach when used in the right way. LEWIS recognizes the importance of informing the public about the abuses in the pig industry so that consumers make more animal-friendly choices.
‘This donation and support are some of my contributions to giving pigs a free and happy life. As long as the government refuses to enforce the legal requirements, it is necessary to fight to improve the position of pigs. They deserve better and I’m very happy that LEWIS recognizes that’. Jennifer Vogels, Account Director, LEWIS Eindhoven.
